Yunior Chiqui Mendoza was born and educated in Santiago, Dominican Republic. He is a graduate of Bellas Artes, where he studied architecture. In 1982, he was appointed to the faculty at Bellas Artes as professor of drawing and painting, and was named the school's director in 2004, serving until 2006, when he moved to New York, where he currently works and lives.
