Palén Obesa

Palén Obesa [Paloma Leida Natividad Obergh Santos] was born and raised in the Dominican Republic and currently resides in New York City. She received her BFA in painting and drawing, and minor in art history at SUNY Purchase College in 2017.

Obesa's work has been exhibited in multiple venues through NYC, including the BxArts Factory, Boricua College Art Gallery,  Loisaida Center, SMV Gallery, Mount Vernon Hotel Museum & Garden, the Caribbean Cultural Center African Diaspora Institute (CCCADI), and HACO NYC. She was also a guest artist for Consejo Grafico Nacional's print portfolio, Perro Mundo/Raw World.

Originally inspired by her involvement in gallery and museum preparation during her college years, Obesa grew interest in arts administration. She is an alumni of the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC) Leadership Institute fellowship (2019) and Advocacy Leadership Institute (2020). Obesa has managed various printmaking collectives, such as Coronado printstudio, Consejo Grafico Nacional, Dominican York Proyecto GRAFICA (DYPC), and Julio Valdez Space Project. She has also worked for non-profit arts and culture organizations, including Hi-ARTS and Loisaida Inc. Center.
