Recurrent Dream

solo exhibition by SM Sanz

October 6 - November 10, 2024

AUSTIN, TX — Coronado Print Room is proud to present Recurrent Dream, a solo exhibition by artist SM Sanz exploring notions of home, identity, memory, and intimacy. Composed of mixed media paintings, screenprints, and risograph prints, Sanz’s exhibition considers the impact of social conventions and politics on women as she delves into her personal journey of immigrating to the U.S. from Panama.

The work displayed is about my experience immigrating to the U.S., uprooting my life to seek a better future and finding myself lost in a place so vast and unlike my home that my time in Panama feels like a past life or a dream. It's an homage to a place that I have outgrown but repeatedly return to in my mind, wearing this nostalgia as an old dress. It’s about the close emotional connections I’ve formed with other women, including my mother, sister, friends, and partners, and the responsibility we feel to look after one another in an environment that is little more than inhospitable.”

On view will also be a brand new screenprint by the artist printed in collaboration with Pepe Coronado at Coronado printstudio this fall.
