Jeankarlos Cruz was born in the Dominican Republic and moved to the United States in 2006. He began his studies under Jesús Rivera’s tutoring and in 2010 he enrolled at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art.
Cruz uses an abstract vocabulary to investigate intangible concepts, such as human nature, cotidianism, ancestry and the objects in between them. By using abstraction as a vehicle to express these ideas, he dissolves immediate associations that might be perceived with figurative representations.
Today’s print is titled, “Infraestructura-Objeto-Imagen.” Cruz explains his work as “Infrastructures that give placement to Objects that create Images.” The layers of materials become actions in the search to capture a materialistic image. Thus, after exhausting the elements in the medium, Cruz’s creation comes to life and continuously evolves within its container into new forms of interpretation.
