Freddy Rodríguez was born in Santiago, Dominican Republic in 1945 and moved to New York in 1963. He studied painting at the Art Student League and the New School for Social Research, and textile design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. One of his most acknowledged commissions is the Flight 587 Memorial in Rock Away Park, Queens in 2006.

Freddy sees art as the ultimate form of freedom. He explains that he still explores new territories and possibilities through his work despite the fact that he has been actively working for over 40 years.

Today’s print is a screenprint of the preparatory sketch for a series of murals commissioned by the Sugar Hill Museum. This work is part of Freddy’s "La fiebre del oro" series, which engages in an intensive investigation centered on gold and its multiple associations with culture, history, politics, religion and art.
